The Lamb?
Sorry if I have already posted this...It was written a long time ago, but I just came across it and wanted it up here...
This quote was brought to my attention by a woman at a wild
game feed in the town that I live in. She had created some cool little cartoon
graphics that went with it, sorry, but I do not have them. The quote comes from
Benjamin Franklin. I confirmed as much as you can on the internet that this
quote actually came from him. However, even if it did not, I believe this is
something to think about. Some of you may wonder why I would put it on a blog
site that I use as a means to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ as He has
taught me. I will explain further….
“Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have
for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.”
In the cartoons the wolves, out numbering the lamb, were
voting on eating the lamb. On page two the “well-armed lamb” was explaining to
the wolves it was not going to be that easy. As in EVERYTHING in my life there
is not a day that goes by that I do not learn something more about my God and
His desires for His people. Of course when I see a lamb I think of the numerous
descriptions of the Lamb of God and why He came. For those of you that do not
know, Jesus is the “Lamb of God”. I also know that Christians are to become
Christ-like. If we who believe ourselves to be followers of this God are to
become more Christ-like one attribute that we must learn is to become like the
“Lamb of God”. There is a time for everything (Ecclesiastes 3) this is actually
scripture that was made famous in a song. I see this picture of the lamb with
the wolves staring at him like lamb chops and licking their lips. This is
similar to the way the demons surrounded Christ while He was being killed on
the Cross (Psalm 22:12,13). It was His
time to be the lamb, and be led to slaughter (Isaiah 53:7). Every inclination
of the human heart at this moment was to war against the killers of the Son of
God. Even Peter who walked with Jesus was willing to fight against the
arresting soldiers, but it was not the time for war or battle. Jesus healed
Malchius the man whose ear was cut off by Peter in the skirmish at the arrest.
The Bible states that Jesus had legions of Angels at His command that He could
have called upon to save (Matthew 26:53) Him but His priority was the will of
God, and His death fulfilled that will. It had to happen just the way it did to
fulfill prophecy from the scriptures and save Gods people. I also see those
wolves surrounding the church today. They are looking and they are licking
their lips, wanting to devour the people of God for their “intolerance”, and
their “ridiculous morality”. I do not believe it is our time to walk willingly
to our death at the hands of these wolves. That time will come soon enough.
Jesus was not just known as the “Lamb of God” but also as
the “Lion of Judah” Lions are not known for their sweet subtle nature. They are
aggressive territorial predators. They protect their turf. They hunt for their
food. The animals of the plains have great respect for them and are careful
when they come around. They are armed, you might say, in the animal kingdom
with teeth, claws, and the muscle to use them. Oh, and it’s not just the males
that are willing to fight and hunt. The females will fight and protect even to
the death. I have personally stood face to face, at approximately 50 yards with
an angry lioness near the border of the Serengeti in Tanzania. Luckily we had a
lot of firepower on our side and she walked the opposite direction after a
short standoff. Before she did she growled a couple times and let out a roar to
remind us we were not welcome in her territory. The hair on my neck stood up,
they are a very powerful creature.
It is time for this body of believers to stand up and become
truly Christ-like. We have overused the “Lamb”. We have become soft and
effeminate. We have allowed the world to stomp out much of the flame that used
to light the way for others to see God. There will always be a time and place
for the Lamb, but we are being called to be the Lion! Our first command from
God came in Genesis 1:26-28. He told man to be fruitful, multiply, to subdue,
and have dominion over the whole earth, every beast of the field, and every
bird of the air. These are proactive commands that involve us standing up.
Nowhere in the scriptures have I ever seen God tell His people that these
commands have changed. And for those of you who feel we are not under any
commands of God now that Jesus has come… I say this read Revelation 21:14, and
John 14:21, Deuteronomy 11:26-32 (This whole book is Good for all Christians to
know)
So Christians…Where are we? Why are we allowing Pornography to
pollute our families? Why have we allowed TV, video games, and any other
electronic babysitters to become our teachers? We know that if we feed our children nothing
but candy, soda, Ice Cream, and cake we will end up with a fat, unhealthy,
toothless kid that has a significantly shortened lifespan and a lesser quality
of life. Why do you think that it is ok to let TV teach them about
homosexuality, adultery, and God? Do you not think that they will become
gluttons of all the stuff that is drawing people away from God? He who causes
one of these little ones to sin, it would be better to have a millstone tied
around his neck and cast in to the sea! (Matthew 18:6) YOU ARE A PARENT!!! Act
like one! Start by standing for God in your own life, in your own home, in your
workplace, and with your family. If you are unsure call on the name of Jesus,
read the Bible, find a church, knock on His door He will respond! How do I
connect all this? We are not called to be a bunch of wimpy little babies when
it comes to God. David was a King, and a warrior. Moses stood up to Pharaoh and
a great nation! Noah built a massive ship and even stood up to the ridicule of
those who thought he was a lunatic. I can name thousands of men and woman in
the Bible and throughout history who stood on their faith for Jesus, some who
lived to an old age and some who were killed for their stance. These people did
it because of their love for God and their desire to see His will be fulfilled.
Just FYI, His will is going to be fulfilled with or without you. It is not
about how good you are or what special talents you possess. It is about the
desire of your Creator for you to love Him. What good parent does not want
their own kid to love them? What good husband does not want his bride to love
him? Why would God be any different if we are created in His Own Image? Let’s
stop giving up what is rightfully ours as children of Christ… from life to
politics to church!
